A large, ominous shape lay silhouetted black against the brightness of the morning sun, perched atop a large boulder. Shaded partially by the low-hanging branch of a young acacia tree, the piercing blue eyes of this dark, brutish shape followed a movement amongst the lush undergrowth of Upendi. Those glaring eyes narrowed as a young couple, a lion and a lioness, emerged from the undergrowth in a fit of quiet giggles and small talk. They stopped below the boulder, all in their own world and unawares of the shadow that lurked just above them.
As the young lovers carried on in hushed, playful conversation, the ominous shape lifted itself slowly, menacingly, from its perch atop the boulder. With one quick and powerful leap it sailed over them and landed with an earth-shuddering thud just in front of the startled and frightened young lions.
The massive brute stayed squatted there for a moment, its back turned to the two young lovers. Bewildered and apprehensive, they looked at one another for a moment before turning their gazes back to the dark shape before them. "S-stay back, I'll handle this!" the brazen young male declared, eager to prove his lionhood to his female companion. He bristled up and stalked forward, hissing and spitting and preparing for a confrontation.
The lion--if it even really was a lion--rose up slowly and turned to face them. The young male's bravado vanished as the massive brute towered over them, staring down at them with the most twisted, cruel face either of the young lovers had ever seen. They recoiled, backing against the boulder with their mouths agape, speechless with horror at the sight of the beast before them.
The brute's piercing blue eyes narrowed even further as if to hold back the rage that seethed behind those scarred eyelids. Did their fearful reaction make him even more angry? A deep rumble came from the brute's throat, a roar that somehow manifested as recognizable speech. "Here to gawk at me, are you!?"
He took a few menacing steps towards them as they hastily shook their heads to deny it, afraid of antagonizing him any further. He didn't believe them. Inches away from their faces he let out a furious roar, vicious canines exposed and deadly in appearance. He raised a paw and took a powerful swipe at them. The wide-eyed youngsters screamed and scrambled over one another to escape, just barely avoiding the slice of his claws as they bolted haphazardly back into the underbrush.
Katenba loomed over the spot where they'd been, huffing and puffing in anger as he raised his head to watch them retreat. After all movement in the underbrush had ceased and he was satisfied that they were gone, he let out a contemptuous snort and leaped back up atop his boulder, settling down to calm his nerves and keep watch for more unwanted guests in his newly claimed territory.

Honestly, she hadn't come to find a lover. Amali just wanted some peace. She still wasn't quite used to being constantly surrounded by others, even though it had been more than half a year since she was in her own. So she often found herself going out to hunt or relax alone. Not that she hated being around friends; she just wanted some alone time now and then. But, for some reason, she was never actually able to be alone. And today was no exception.
Amali layed on her back, just looking up at the sky with a blank expression, daydreaming. Just pondering over things that she would probably forget about in the next five minutes. But it was something to do, at least. But suddenly, she found herself interrupted by some giggles and hushed voices. Sitting up, Amali glanced over in the direction of the noises, and wasn't surprised to spot a younger couple chatting with each other. Her pelt prickled as she sensed the presence of someone else. Curiosity pricked her paws as she padded after them, keeping low do as not to disturb them. It wasn't until they stopped in frot of a large boulder that she noticed who else was there.
Amali watched with interest, listening to the situation at hand. This new lion sure did have a temper! She flicked her tail in shock at his roar, but wasn't especially surprised to see the two cats scurry off in fear. He sure seemed frightening. Luckily for her, however, she wasn't intimidated. Calmly, she waited for the large lion to calm down before speaking up.
"Well, you spoiled their fun." Amali mused, bunching her muscles and leaping onto the boulder, landing a bit clumsily next to him. She sat down, wrapping her long white tail around her paws and speaking brightly, "What're you so upset about?" She obviously didn't realize that she should be afraid of the big brute. Amali just sat calmly, her bright blue eyes sparkling with excitement at the prospect of getting to know this guy. Of he would even talk to her, of course.

      "Well, you spoiled their fun."[/b]
Before Katenba could settle down properly or even blink, he found himself beset by yet another uninvited guest. His lip curled into a surprised sneer and the fur on his backside prickled as the brazen lioness seated herself nonchalantly right next to him as if she owned his rock. He backed away slightly. "What're you so upset about?"[/b] she had the nerve to ask, her voice as chipper as a yearling cub's! Katenba's sneer grew, his lip curling further to reveal his teeth. What a frightening face for such a monster to have--and yet, the lioness seemed to not even notice.
Katenba's sneer faded into a scowl, one brow raised as he tried to figure this stranger out. Wasn't she scared? Why didn't she scream, shriek, gasp, and run like all of the others? Katanba stared at her for a moment longer before lowering his head defensively, his growl of a voice rasping calmly, quietly out as he said to her, "You're either very naive, or very stupid. In either case, this is my territory, and I suggest you leave."
His deep voice, although at the moment calm, was laced with a very simple warning and a slight threat. He didn't understand what her angle was, or what cruel trick the brave lioness must be trying to play on him, or even if she really was just naive or stupid. Either way, he didn't want to deal with it. His black, dirty claws flexed in agitation as he waited for her to make her next move.

Amali watched the lion calmly, not paying much attention to the fact that this was an extremely terrifying-looking lion. She was completely oblivious to the fact that she should probably leave before he ripped her her pelt off. All she did was watch, slightly amused, at the slightly-puzzled look on his face. When he took on the defense look, it was all she could do not to laugh. Did he seriously see her as a threat? She wasn't exactly big, nor did she appear particularly strong. "Well, it's your lucky day, because I am both very naive and very stupid." she replied smoothly, taking interest in the last sentence he spoke. "You're territory, huh? Good for you, but I just got here and I don't plan on leaving. Sorry, but you're not as scary as you think." Okay, that was a lie. But hey; don't judge a book by it's cover, right? Amali wasn't going to be scared of this lion just because of how he looked. Amali's eyes stared back at his, a challenge glinting in her eyes as she waited, her eyes daring him to do something.

Katenba's head jerked back indignantly as if she'd just smacked him in the face, his eyes wide with rage. Just who in the heck did she think she was? She stared at him challengingly and that was all the justification he needed. He didn't care that she seemed unafraid of him, and he didn't care how naive she must be. Katenba didn't tolerate what he perceived as disrespect, not from anyone and certainly not from some spunky little lioness. With a snarl he hunkered down on the large boulder, his haunches rocking as he prepared to launch himself at her, his claws outstretched in anticipation of a fight.

Amali found herself trying not to laugh as she watched the anger blooming across this terrifying lion's face as he heard her words. Wow, she really had provoked him...whoops! She watched him crouch down, obviously intending to fight her. She was smaller, not as strong, and rather clumsy. The only good thing was that she was probably faster and more agile than this giant brute. So, she knew that she would lose if it would come down to a fight. A little part of her was screaming You'll get ripped apart you idiot, just apologize and leave! but she rarely payed any attention to the sensible part of her mind. Amali was always glad to jump into a bit of danger, so it would have been no surprise to anyone who knew her well when she crouched down and unsheathed her claws, her eyes glittering and her tail twitching in anticipation. Nothing better than a good fight to get the adrenaline pumping through your veins! She was scared, of course. but it was masked over the excitement.

She seemed to be mocking him, obviously holding back a laugh as she continued to provoke him, her eyes dancing with excitement and merriment as she crouched down in answer to his aggression. Now this was something that Katenba had grown accustomed to--young, foolish lions who threw on a cloak of bravado in order to mock and tease him. Unfortunately for them, Katenba had thwarted their bravado each time.
Figuring he had Amali pegged as one of those cruel, foolish hooligans, he felt no shame as he launched himself towards the lioness with a frightening roar. His already twisted face twisted more with rage as he sailed above her, with his filthy, almost blackened claws poised for a powerful blow to her shoulder. He was fairly certain the one attack would be enough to send the brazen lioness sailing off of his boulder and hurtling towards the ground, possibly spraining something or even cracking a bone...
... And, should his attack be successful, he hoped that it be enough to knock some sense into her and make her realize that her only option was to retreat. If not, then he would show no mercy and finish her off.

The loud roar boomed in her ears, causing her to flatten them as she quickly tried to avoid the claws descending onto her. But she was still tired from a day of running around chasing prey, so she wasn't nearly as fast as she normally was. She had come close to avoiding the sharp claws, but had, most unfortunately, not been completely successful. His blackened claws knicked her shoulder, breaking the skin with ease and causing some blood to spurt out of the fresh wound. Amali skidded to a halt, just barely avoiding falling off the boulder, and sat down, inspecting the cut. Nothing serious. She gave it a quick lick to wipe away the blood before turning back at the big brute. She hadn't come here for a fight, but she had provoked him. Probably not the smartest of moves. Amali wasn't afraid of this lion like she probably should be, she just continued staring at him with glittering eyes. She would let him make a move, she wasn't gonna fight unless she forced him to, and even then she wasn't going to kill him or anything. Mostly because she was physically unable to, but also because she wasn't really willing. Amali would defend herself, yes, but not under these circumstances. If he would stop fighting, she wouldn't fight. But if he kept fighting, she wouldn't be afraid to use a little tooth and claw.

Katenba whirled to face her, surprised to see that she was still foolish enough to stay even after being hit by his attack. He growled, knowing that his attack hadn't been at its full force because the tricky little lioness had managed to avoid the worst of it. As a result, she probably still wasn't aware of just what he was capable of. He lowered his head menacingly, glaring at her as he stalked slowly towards her. As each step drew him closer to her, it almost seemed as if his gargantuan size increased with every step.
His lip curled into a sneer as he slowly moved in to stand uncomfortably nose-to-nose with her, his hateful, cold, sky-blue eyes level with hers. His voice no more than a malicious growl, he uttered, "That was the warning shot. I want you to understand that if you do not leave this territory right now, I will not hesitate to kill you. This is your last--and only--chance to leave here alive."

Vitani felt like she had walked a long way by the time she had reached her final destination point - Upendi. She had no idea how she had come to be here, she didn't even hardly remember most of the walk. She was thinking too much about the changes of the past to now. From her view-point, everything was perfect now, even though she did miss her mother, it was for the best that she could no longer corrupt anyone, and Scar, as well. She stood still for a moment once she was inside the perimeters of Upendi, ready to relax and take in the view. She wasn't here for love, she had no intentions of being in love and having cubs. She loved being more of the loner type, minus the fact she was in a pride. She could do whatever she wanted, without the worry of pleasing a mate and watching cubs. All she had in mind now was to listen to the birds chirp and enjoy the fresh and pleasing aroma. Vitani laid herself down at the water's edge, lapped up a few sips of water, then put her head down to rest. She thought for a moment about the cubs, but then quickly emptied her mind of any thoughts so that she could properly relax. This seemed to be the only place where lions usually didn't hang around, the perfect place.

Katenba's ears twitched as the sound of trickling water caught his attention. Some hapless creature had disturbed the still, silent watering hole, presumably for a drink. His eyes never leaving Amali, he flared his nostrils as he took a quick survey of scents, and a growl puffed out of his lips as he recognized the scent as another lioness. 'They're just coming one right after another today... well. I'll take care of that.'
With one final glare and snarl, Katenba jabbed his nose against Amali's and uttered in his growl of a voice, "Run, or I'll be dealing with you later." With that said, he jerked his head towards the watering hole and began stalking towards it. As he approached, he caught sight of his latest intruder: there, lazing by the watering hole, was a lithe, tawny lioness with eyes just slightly bluer than Katenba's. For a moment the great beast stood there staring, his mind for once utterly blank. He wasn't sure what it was about her that had him so mesmerized, but mesmerizing or not she had to go. He narrowed his eyes and took several slow, noisy steps towards her as he crushed and shuffled around the twigs and leaves beneath his paws.
Katenba loomed over the lioness, his great size casting a shadow over her. The sun was directly behind him and drowned out his features, giving the great beast a dark, sinister appearance. The expression on his twisted face was threatening, and to complete the look of a monster he lifted his lip into a silent snarl, revealing several long, partially yellowed teeth. Katenba was well-practiced in the art of using his cursed ugliness to his advantage and had learned to manupulate it well; with any luck, it would be more than enough to send the newcomer running.

Vitani was in a peaceful mood after her play fight with Kovu and Kiara, and hadn't expected to have any company, just some nice refreshing silence away from the tedious life of being a hunter in a large pride. Little did she know that she would meet her match, in a few aspects. Realizing instantly a shadow had casted over her body, she waited for a voice to greet her, but instead she received a rather rude snarl. She looked behind her shoulder and saw a large ominous figure standing before her. She smirked as the thought occurred to her that this male lion thought he was intimidating her. Obviously a loner, he had a lot to learn. Vitani sat up slowly and held her head high. "And just who are you, stranger?" Vitani said with a commanding voice. She'd had too much training to fight when it was necessary to be scared of one little possible threat, and she felt bad for this lion if he tried to attack her. She may not be the biggest lioness but she was a quick striker. He'd have his paws full.

No such luck in scaring her immediately off, it seemed. No matter, Katenba had other ways of dealing with uninvited guests. He opened his yellow-fanged mouth to reply in his malicious, deep voice, "The master of this territory. You are a trespasser here, and I suggest you leave."
Obviously the sight of a huge looming shadowy figure had no effect on this lioness. 'Very well then, I'll give her a glimpse of what I really am,' he thought grimly. He stepped slowly around her, each creeping step bringing into the sunlight the ghastly appearance of his mangled, scarred, monstrous face. He stared right through her with his cold, hateful eyes as he reared up, balancing on his haunches as he bathed in the fullness of the sunlight that revealed his beastly appearance in its entirety. He held his huge, clawed forepaws up above her as if to strike, but remained still there in a statuesque pose.
